OAKFIELD - Alston D. Crandall Sr., 80, of Oakfield, died unexpectedly Oct. 20, 2015, in Bangor. He was born October 10, 1935, in Oakfield, the son of Calvin and Erma (Chute) Crandall.
Alston worked in the logging industry for many years. He then worked for the town of Oakfield and later worked for International Paper in Island Falls, then transferred into Dover Foxcroft, retiring from there at the age of 62.
He is survived by a son, Alston Crandall Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Mapleton; a daughter, Rebecca Anderson and her husband, Andy of Crystal; several grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Anderson, Annie Ehler, Kirby and Nathan Hardy and Marcy King; great-grandchildren, Libby, Hunter, Graci, and Madisyn Anderson, Emma and Jake King, Lincoln and Liam Hardy and Padme Hardy; a brother, Merwin and his wife, Shirley Crandall; a sister, Alice Cullinan, all of Oakfield; a brother-in-law, Ralph and Glenda Dwyer of Ashland; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alston had many good friends but especially will be missed by Betty and Jr Richardson and their family of Dover-Foxcroft. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Jeanette Dwyer Crandall; his parents; a sister, Juanitta Hallett; and a brother-in-law, Peter Cullinan.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oakfield Baptist Church with funeral service being held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Phelps officiating. Interment will be in the Oakfield Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls
