Alphie's Story

SUMMERFIELD, FL. - Another of the Greatest Generation has passed away.....

Alphie G. Jandreau, 92, a WWII, Battle of Midway Veteran, devoted husband for over 65 years and loving father returned to the arms of Our Lord on June 11, 2016 at his home in Summerfield, Florida.

Alphie was born to Felix and Philomen (Thibodeau) Jandreau, on March 9, 1924 in St. Francis, ME where he worked hard on the family farm along side his 10 brothers and sisters.

In 1943, he joined the United States Marine Corps. at Paris Island, South Carolina. After training at Camp Lejeune, NC, he was assigned to a Squadron of B-25's in the Marine Air Corp., and stationed in Arkansas City, TX and then Louisiana. Alphie was deployed overseas in 1945 to Midway Island in the South Pacific. He was there when the war ended later that year, and was officially discharged holding the rank of Sergeant.

After the war, Alphie went to work for Maine Public Service Company where he held several positions for 16 years. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Stella Caron. They were married on August 29, 1950 and settled in Caribou, Maine where they welcomed and raised three children. Together they owned and operated Jandreau's Grocery from 1960 until their retirement in 1986. They eventually moved to Florida to embrace their retirement in the warm sunshine where they enjoyed many years of square dancing, spending time with family and friends, afternoons at the pool and fun evenings playing cards and Cribbage.

Alphie was a lifelong Member of the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree member and also a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Alphie is survived by his wife, Stella, of Summerfield, FL, his daughter Janice (Arthur) Jean of Niceville, FL and two sons, Dale (Melinda) Jandreau of Meridian, MS and Scott (Christine) Jandreau of Canaan, NH, his grandchildren, Gannett (Jennifer) Jean of Alexandria, OH, Hagen Jandreau of Canaan, NH and Trevor Davidson of Edwards, CO. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Claude Dumond, and sisters-in-law, Aline Jandreau and Alvia Jandreau as well as many, many nieces and nephews and their families. Alphie was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Philomen, and all his brothers and sisters.

A Funeral Mass will be held on June 24 at 8:30 AM at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, Lady Lake, FL 32159. Internment will be held June 27 at 11:50 AM at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
