HAMPDEN - On September 13, 2014, I went to my new home after 75 years of amazing time with family and friends. I was born September 15, 1938, at home in Madawaska, Maine to O'Neil and Mildred (Deprey) Bouchard.
I attended Madawaska schools and graduated from "Notre Dame De La Sagesse" (Wisdom) High School in 1957. After a year of trying to "find myself", I went to Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1961. Nursing was a wonderful career for me. Not only did I enjoy the work and my patients, but also my coworkers became friends that lasted a lifetime. Over the years, I have worked at NMMC, Fort Kent; Ottawa Civic Hospital, Ottawa, Canada; St. Rapheal's Hospital, New Haven, CT; Wallingford Home & Hospital, Wallingford, CT; Patten Ambulance Service, Patten, ME; Millinocket Regional Hospital, Millinocket, ME; and EMMC, Bangor, ME.
The most important events of my life have been the births and joys (as well as challenges!) of my five children. They have been my personal stellar constellation. Not only have I been blessed with my children, their spouses, and 7 grandchildren, but also a fairly large extended family.
I am survived by my children: Robert X. and Dana H., and granddaughter, Tori H. Black of Atlanta, GA; Elizabeth A. Black and Mike Savageau of Beverly, MA; Kathleen M. and Nick Largay, and grandchildren, Rachel, Bryce, and Colby of Brewer, ME; Douglas F. and Karen Lee, and grandchildren, Kayle, Sierra, and Keanan Black of Milton, FL; Bernadine A. Johnson of Montville, ME; and the father of my children and husband of 19 years, Robert X. Black. I am also survived by my siblings: Doran & Pat Bouchard, Sally & Bob Jacques, and Dathan Bouchard, as well as several nieces, nephews and my aunts and uncles: Reno & Becky, Elmer & Irene, Gene & Edna (all Deprey's). I am also survived by my partner of 34 years, Kay Hunter and her granddaughter, Autumn, as well as her daughter, Vicki Leavitt, her daughter-in-law, Cheri Hunter, and their children and families. Kay and I also enjoyed in our home: Melissa, Craig, and other young people who needed a place to be. I have been predeceased by my parents, grandparents, several aunts and uncles, a foster daughter: Sandy Montgomery, Kay's son, Eric Hunter, and my son-in-law, William Johnson.
It is my wish to be cremated and for my family to bury my ashes in a private service at a later date. There will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. I would appreciate your prayers. There is a special place in my heart for the McGraw Elementary School Library, where I volunteered for years. I would request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to McGraw Elementary School Library, in memory of Alice Nancy Black, 20 Main Road North, Hampden, ME 04444. Arrangements are entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden.
