FORT KENT AND ALLAGASH - Albert Gibson, 88, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 28, 2015, at a Fort Kent health care facility. He was born in Allagash on August 1, 1927, the son of the late Samuel and Easter (Hafford) Gibson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Jean (Dow) Gibson of Allagash. Although he had no children of his own, he was a special uncle to his nephews and nieces. He made Christmas special for them by always choosing the perfect gift.
Albert was predeceased by four brothers, Calvin Hafford, John, Samuel and Dwight Gibson; and two sisters, Margaret Hafford and Viola Martin.
Albert served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, then returned home to Allagash, where he cared for his mother and worked on improving their home. From 1956 to 1988, he worked for the Maine Forest Service, where he held a variety of positions. In 1989 he married Jean Dow. After retiring from the Forest Service he worked for the Northern Maine Woods at the St. Francis Gate for 14 years. He was proud of his service to the state of Maine and shared many stories about his experiences. He was a member to the Fort Kent Masonic Lodge and received his 50 year pin. Family were an important part of his life. Caring for them was a priority. He enjoyed telling stories about hunting, fishing, work and his family. A visit to his home was not complete without at least one spirited discussion about politics.
Friends may call Sunday, November 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., where there will be a Masonic Service held at 7 p.m. at the Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Allagash Pentecostal Church. Graveside service with full military honors will be held at the Allagash Municipal Cemetery. Those who wish, in Albert's memory, may donate to a charity of one's choice.
