PITTSFIELD - Albert C. Fitts, 83, died Friday, January 30, 2015, after a long illness at his home in Pittsfield.
He was born on June 16, 1931, in Pittsfield, the son of the late Lewis and Florice (Weymouth) Fitts. He graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1950.
Al operated AC Fitts Body Shop in the 60's and built the Landmark Motor Inn/Ponderosa Room in Pittsfield. He enjoyed woodworking and built his family home on Sibley Pond which he truly enjoyed these last years with his family, friends and dog, Fritz. He liked contracting, plowing snow and watching football, especially the Patriots. He was a 32nd degree, Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason, belonging to the Meridian Lodge #125 in Pittsfield and he was a Shriner, a longtime member of the Anah Band.
He is survived by his four sons, Scott D. Fitts and wife, Diana, of Saco, Steven M. Fitts and wife, Angela, of Pittsfield, Stacey A. Fitts and wife, Tina, of Pittsfield and Sean W. Fitts and wife, Amanda, of Peoria, Illinois; his sister, Alice Ross of Belfast; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce M. Fitts, in 1991; and two brothers, Gerald R. Fitts and Lewis R. Fitts II.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 5, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. A graveside committal will be held in the spring at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
Memorial donations may be given to the Anah Shriners, 586 Main Street, Bangor, Maine, 04401, in Albert's memory.
