Adeline's Story

Text size

Gardiner, Maine and Richmond, - Adeline York Ward, 84, of Gardiner, Maine and Richmond, Texas, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, due to complications of respiratory failure. She was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Winslow, Maine, the daughter of Achille "Archie" York and Aurelie "Thelma" York, née Cloutier.
Adeline was born with artistic abilities which found expression in beautiful landscape paintings and in the gorgeous cakes which she baked and decorated for the weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries of appreciative family and friends. In addition, she was an avid card player who played often with family. She traveled to several countries in North America and Europe, and lived in Spain and West Germany, with a particular love of Germany, but loved her home state of Maine best and looked forward to her return every summer. She had a big heart, which led her to adopt cats in need, and she was caring for four ex-strays, including her beloved Lucy and Rocky, at the time of her death.
She will always be remembered as a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, MSgt. Clifford Ward (USAF-retired); two daughters, Cynthia Ward and Sheila Faulkingham and her husband, Michael Faulkingham; two granddaughters, Erica Lizotte and her husband, Michael Lizotte and Kristy Faulkingham; and her sister, Albertine "Tina" York Bishop; her sister-in-law, Viola York Begin; her sister-in-law, Shirley Wilder Godet; her brother- and sister-in-law, George and Gloria Ward; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father and mother; her sister, Gloria York Maheu; and her brother, Richard York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held noon, Friday, July 14, 2017, at St. Augustine, 75 Northern Avenue, Augusta, Maine. Burial will be at 2:00 PM at Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road (not avenue), Augusta. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 PM at St. Monica's Hall at the St. Augustine church complex, where family and friends are invited to have refreshments and share memories.
