Adelard's Story

BIDDEFORD - Adelard J. Raymond, 89, of Biddeford, died Sunday, March 6, 2016, at his home. He was born July 24, 1926, in Ft. Kent, ME, a son of Willie and Olive (Pelletier) Raymond, and was educated there.

On October 30, 1950, he married Lucille D. Raymond in St. Louis Church in Frenchville. He worked in the Maine woods for three years, and another three years in road construction. In 1953 they moved to Waterville, where he was employed for 2 years as a driver hauling mail with Paul Arbour Trucking.

In 1960 they came to Biddeford. Here he worked at the Saco Tannery for 19 years until it closed; he was then employed at Reece Corporation in Westbrook until his retirement in 1988. Adelard enjoyed horse racing, card playing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Roland Raymond, in 1951; and by several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Lucille Raymond of Biddeford; one son, Gilman Raymond of Biddeford; 3 daughters, Rena Lambert and her husband, Michael, of Saco, Joanne Nolette and her husband, Albert, of Biddeford and Madeleine Ruel and her husband, Ralph, of Hollis Center; 1 sister, Cecile Morrill of Brewer; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Biddeford.
