Carmel - William C. Wellington, 76, of Carmel, Maine, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at home with his family by his side. He was born March 13, 1940, in Island Falls, Maine, the son of Stanley T. Wellington and Winnifred E. (Clark) McLaughlin.
Billy spent most of his childhood in Brunswick, Bangor, and Dyer Brook, Maine, before graduating from Oakfield Community High School in 1958. After graduating, he enlisted in the Army where he trained as an MP, as well as in communications and surveying. He served from 1958 until honorably discharged in 1962. Bill worked for Rudman Beverage of Brewer, Tingley Bakery in Houlton and Caron Company in Portland before his long career of 35 dedicated years as a letter carrier in Houlton and Bangor for the USPS. Billy attended Ricker College of Houlton taking business classes. After retiring, he enjoyed jobs to keep him busy working for Nabisco in Bangor, Andys IGA of Houlton and Danforths of Hermon. Throughout his early adult years Billy coached multiple little league baseball teams, playing in the championships and coaching our locally famous Dale Duff. He served in the Houlton Jaycees working on many charitable activities. Bill loved spending his free time outdoors hunting, fishing, and sitting by the campfire with his family and friends. Billy kept a small farm for many years and loved going home to his stepdads (Donald McLaughlin) dairy farm to help.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diana (Tweedie) Wellington of Brownville Jct.; three children, June Sandberg of Brewer, whom he lovingly adopted as his own and her husband, Craig, Patricia Lesan and husband, Skip of Hancock, Tamara Cardello and husband, Jon, of Hampden; four grandchildren, Amanda and Kyle Close and Jacob and Jared Cardello; sisters, Stanley Wellington-Hastey of Scottdale, PA, and Naomi McGraw of Patten; brother, Kemp McLaughlin of Oakfield; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
