BANGOR AND BREWER - William G. Travis Sr. of Bangor and Brewer passed away on December 22, 2015. He was born April 7, 1948, the son of Walter and Gertrude Travis.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Brewer and was in sales, starting with Pepsi, moving to Pillsbury and ending his career with Pine Tree Waste. In his early years, he worked part-time for the Brewer Police Department. He was a devoted family man, and was involved in all his children's activities such as being active in the PAL Program at the Brewer Rec, by assisting with coaching and refereeing multiple sports. He also implemented full uniforms for the farm league when he was President of Little League. He later became involved in his grandchildren's activities.
He loved cooking and entertaining, especially on Christmas Eve when family and friends came over to celebrate. His motto was "The more the merrier."
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Hall; brother, Walter "Buddy"; and brothers and sister-in laws.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Marguerite "Maggie"; sons, William Jr., Ronald; and daughter, Tracie Cochrane; grandchildren, Kara and husband, Derek Meader, Brian and wife, Katie Cochrane, Julia Travis and Ronald Travis; three great-grandchildren, Mythias, Darius, and Scarlett "Peanut"; brother, Kevin; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone at Westgate Center for the care they gave to Bill, and the kindness and support to his family. Also, to Beacon Hospice for their assistance in caring for Bill.
