Text size

Millinocket - William R. Tapley, Sr., 64, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 15, 2017, surrounded by his family, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 11, 1953 in Bangor, the son of Russell C. and Nadine J. (Brooker) Tapley.
Bill grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1971. Like many young men in the area at that time, he went right to work at Great Northern Paper Company after graduation, and remained working there until 2002, spending time in the Coater Department and the Paper Room. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many pastimes from hunting and fishing to boating, snowmobiling, and atving. Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor - it was said "he cheered the world" with his jokes and stories, which always kept things lively and interesting at family gatherings. He loved his family and was very proud of being a "Papa".
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ellen (Boynton) Tapley; two children, Heather Tapley and her boyfriend, Mickey Moody, and William "BJ" Tapley Jr., his wife Susan; a grandson, William Tapley, III; three sisters, Marilyn Vose, Patricia Boyington and her husband Dale, and Peggy Tapley; his mother-in-law, whom he regarded as his second mother, Nadine Boynton; a sister-in-law, Susan Tower; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jeannie, his father-in-law Reggie Boynton, and his stepfather, John Pheeney.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 21 at the Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Avenue, Millinocket, with the Rev. Tim Bossie, pastor, officiating. Interment will be private. Gifts in memory of Bill may be sent to the Memorial Fund at Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Avenue, Millinocket, ME 04462.
