Stonington - William 'Bill' S. Hutchinson, 92, husband of Sarah (Robbins), passed away on May 18, 2017 at his home on Greenhead where they spent the greater part of their life together. He was born January 11, 1925, in Stonington to Alice Chamberlain and Harry A. Hutchinson and lovingly raised by his foster parents Mary and Charles Pearson.
He attended Stonington schools. After the war, Bill married Sarah Robbins, and they had two daughters Zelda and Wilda. He worked as a self-employed lobster fisherman.
During WWII, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was put into active duty on March 21, 1944 in the Pacific Theatre on Iwo Jima. Following the war, he returned to the island and became a self-employed lobsterman, his livelihood for many years. He was an active lifetime member of the American Legion Rodney Stinson Post for 71 years. He served as Post Commander and as a devoted chaplain.
He is survived by his wife Sarah, daughter Zelda and son-in-law Theodore O. Boyce of Deer Isle, daughter Wilda and son-in-law Richard D. Eaton of Stonington, five grandchildren: Lisa (Boyce) Graziano and her husband Stephen of York, ME, Amy (Boyce) Dube and her husband Mark of Orrington, ME, Theodore O. Boyce II of Stonington, Christopher his wife Morgan Eaton of Stonington, Pamela (Eaton) Wendell and husband Andrew of Deer Isle. He was predeceased by his treasured grandson Andrew Eaton in 2000. He leaves 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation hours will be on Monday, May 22, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m., funeral services on Tuesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. both at the Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch in Sunset, Maine.
