CHERRYFIELD - William (Bill) Augustus Brundage passed away with his children by his side on Friday, May 8th, 2015.
Bill was born in Hamptonburgh, NY in 1933, to William E. Brundage and Georgia (Peters) Brundage. He was the father of Carole (Brundage) Corda and husband, Stephen of East Falmouth, MA, Elliott Brundage and wife, Melissa Litton of Andover, MA, Catharine (Brundage) Miller and husband, Mark of Centennial, CO; grandfather of Stephen and fiancé Lauren, Christina, Nicholas and Kate Corda, Zachary and Lucas Miller, and Jacob Brundage. Bill is also survived by his brother, Edward Brundage and wife Jeanne of North Port, FL, as well as nieces and a nephew in the Blooming Grove, NY.
Throughout his life, Bill was an active participant and friend to many. He attended the Storm King School in Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY and then continued his education at Roanoke College in Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He served in the Army during the late 1950s, stationed at the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, MD.
An avid tennis player, Bill was also a lover of music, history, gardening, fishing, exploring, photography and animals. Backyard archaeological digs with his family where old bottles, coins, arrowheads and other treasures from past centuries were uncovered, was one of the poignant experiences he shared as a father. Later in life, he expanded this passion beyond the backyard to many different parts of the world; discovering, learning, appreciating other cultures and history. Whether in Tanzania, capturing wildlife on film, or taking in the local flavor at a tavern in Scotland, Bill knew how to enjoy life and appreciate the uniqueness, the history and culture of what each place had to offer. At home and around town, Bill and his dachshund, Ben were always within a thrown ball's distance away from each other.
After relocating from the Boston area, Bill spent the last 15 years of his life in Maine. His involvement in the Maine community included serving on the board of the Ruggles House Society, as well as membership in the Machiasport Historical Society and Woodlawn Croquet Club in Ellsworth.
A memorial service will be held on June 20th at 11:00 at the Cherryfield Congregational Church in Cherryfield, Maine. Friends and family are welcome.
