- Wilfred 'Willy' Emmett King, 49, passed away of squamous cell carcinoma at his home on Friday evening, April 21st, 2017. Willy was born in Bangor on June 27, 1967, the son of James and Mary (Smith) King.
Willy attended the Lewis S. Libby School in Milford, and graduated from Old Town High School in 1985. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Notre Dame University and his Master in Survey Engineering from the University of Maine, Orono in 1993.
Willy married Thana Grant in 2000, and together they had four wonderful children: Thea (15), James (13), Dominic (10) and Emmett (6). Willy worked in Texas and Rockland before settling in his hometown of Milford, where he opened his own survey business; this was his greatest joy and achievement, second only to his beautiful family. Willy had lifelong association with the firefighter/paramedic family of the greater Bangor area, working at Old Town Fire Dept, Capital Ambulance, and as a Lieutenant at Milford Fire Dept.
Willy possessed a special blend of kindness and warmth, and equally teamed with Thana, they gathered many friends into their welcoming friendship over the years. Willy's life, and their life together, reflected a deep desire to love others well and without reservation.
In addition to his wife and children, Willy is also survived by his parents, James and Mary King of Milford, a sister Elizabeth King-Howard and her husband Jason of Alpharetta, GA, mother-in-law, Gaye Grant of Old Town, and several special brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Willy's cherished paramedic and firefighter family for attending to him around the clock in his final hours. Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Apr. 28, 2017, at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Catholic Church, Old Town. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, family and friends consider donating to an educational fund set up for the children through Bangor Savings Bank, 564 Stillwater Ave., Old Town, ME 04468. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
