Wesley 'Gene' Braley Jr.

August 22, 1931 - August 29, 2018

Newport Wesley 'Gene' Braley Jr., a kind and humble man, died on August 29, 2018, at the age of 87 in Auburn, ME, with his son and wife of sixty years by his side.
Gene was born in Presque Isle, Maine, on August 22, 1931, the son of Wesley Braley Sr. and June (Rand) Braley. He was educated in the Newport School System.
Gene was a member of the Newport Fire Department for 32 years. He retired as an Honorary Assistant Chief. He was an active member of the Sebasticook Valley Snowmobile Club for many years. Gene was an avid deer hunter and looked forward to his time afield like no other.
He was previously employed at Cummings Mill, Guilford Industries, Lakeside Electrical and Concrete Cutting. He worked doing auto body repair and enjoyed growing many acres of dry beans.
He is survived by his wife, Nathalie "Bunny" Braley of Newport; his son, Greg and his wife, Penny, of Bethel, ME; his grandsons, Matthew of Newport, and McKinley of Bethel; his sisters, Marie Braley and Donna Jones of Newport, and Carol Phoir of Penobscot, ME; his brothers, Gary, Harry of Newport, Max of Plaistow, NH; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Arlene Lander.
No funeral will be held as per his wishes, and his committal service will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Newport.
A party to celebrate his life will be held on September 8, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the new fire and police building in the meeting room. Come bring your memories and stories, all are welcome.
