Newport - Warren Hahnemann Nickse, 95, passed away peacefully on July 21st, 2017 at home in Newport. He was born in Worcester, MA on December 18th, 1921, grew up in Newport and graduated from Newport High School. Warren was a signalman in the U. S. Navy for 10 years. He was one of the brave men on the beaches of Normandy during World War II. He took great pride in his time in the service, where he was able to travel around the world serving his country.
One of Warren's greatest passions was being a pilot, and he was fortunate enough to have owned his own airplane. He was a commercial, private, and instructional pilot, who at one time served as commander of the Civil Air Patrol. Over the years he owned several small successful businesses including W.H. Nickse TV & Repair, Nickse Electronics, and several rental properties. He was a carpenter and built several houses including two of his own. Another one of Warren's passions was photography. He took photos for his Navy ship, worked for the Bangor Daily News, Waterville Sentinel, and owned his own business with a dark room. Warren was a hard worker and loved to stay busy, having a saw filing business until he was 92. He enjoyed his life and loved telling stories about his adventures. He had no regrets and always encouraged others to do what they love. Warren met and married Geraldine "Jerry" Shaw in 1960. They were married for 47 years until she passed away in 2007.
Warren is survived by his children, Melinda "Mindy" Carr and husband Dennis of Corinna, Michael "Mickey" Cleaves of Stetson, and Debra "Deb" Stone and husband Ken of Newport; his grandchildren, Jennifer Cloutier and husband Armand of Corinna, Christopher Carr and fiancé Kim Mcpheters of Brewer, Jason Cleaves and wife Katie of Stetson, Rochelle Cleaves of Brewer, Katie Trask and boyfriend Innocent Okolocha of Bangor, and Abby Stone of Rockport; great grandchildren, Gavin, Baden, and Anna Carr, Carrson and Caden Cloutier, Brian Cleaves and Alyssa Howard.
