Stillwater - Walter Douglas St. John, 88, died on March 9, 2018, at his home on Bennoch Road. He was born on November 1, 1929, in Newport, RI, the son of Walter Douglas Sr. and Frances Elizabeth (Williams) St. John.
Walter grew up in Hempstead, NY, and Tucson, AZ. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Arizona and a doctorate in education and counseling from the University of Southern California. He taught at the University of Arizona, University of Tennessee, and the University of New Hampshire system, and was adjunct faculty at Hofstra University and New Hampshire College. Following his service in the US Army during Korea, he worked in public schools in Arizona and California as a teacher, coach, and counselor. He later worked for the National American Wholesale Grocers in New York City and for Friendly Corporation. He wrote many articles for professional and business journals and is the author of several books on communication and management, and continued to write until two months prior to his death. He was well known for his passion and knowledge of baseball. He was counting the days until the start of baseball season!
He was predeceased by his parents, and brother-in-law, Robert Canfield, all of Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Folsom) St. John, his daughter from a prior marriage, Kathryn St. John and her husband, Dr. Ian Morris, of Boulder Creek, CA; sister, Elizabeth S. Canfield of Tucson, AZ; brother- and sister-in-law, Owen J. and Rosemary Folsom of Stillwater, sister- and brother-in-law, Jane F. and Raymond Healy, of Bradenton, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Maine.
At Walter's direction there will be no services.
