Wallace's Story

EAGLE LAKE - Wallace H. Desjardins 71, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Portland due to complications from heart surgery. He was born on April 4, 1943 in Wallagrass, son of the late Thomas and Georgianna (Bouchard) Desjardins.

After high school, Wally moved to New Jersey. He worked at various machine shops including New York Shipyard in Camden, N.J. He was also a member of the National Guard. In 1965, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sandra (Libby) Desjardins. They settled in Lindenwold N.J., where they raised their children. In 1973, he was able to fulfill a dream of owning his own machine shop called P-D-R Machinery, named after his children. Wally was granted three patents for his hospital equipment, which won him an award from the Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He developed innovative medical equipment under his new company name, AIV Systems.

Wally was very involved with the Rotary Club of Stratford/Lindenwold, NJ, and attained the position of district Governor in southern New Jersey. In his retirement years, Wally enjoyed his new Rotary Club of Fort Kent and was still part of the many events that the Rotary held.

Wally is predeceased by his parents, daughter Dawn Marie Desjardins, his sisters Betty Bernier, Wanna Sioch, and brother Tommy Desjardins.

Wally is survived by his beloved wife Sandra of 49 years, daughters Denise Witmer and husband Scott, Robin Reed and husband John, sons Peter and wife Sheri, David and wife Serina, and 10 grandchildren who meant the world to him and were his "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow: Briana Witmer, Gigi Witmer, Mari Witmer, Sean Desjardins, Brendan Desjardins, Madison Desjardins, Chloe Reed, Mackenzie Reed, Isabelle Desjardins, and Grace Desjardins. Brothers Bob Desjardin and wife Betty, Herbert Desjardins and wife Jessie, Herman Desjardins and wife Doretta, and sister Christy Plourde, along with many aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Arrangements are in the care of Daigle Funeral home, Fort Kent. Friends may call Feb. 2, Monday From 6 to 8 pm and Tuesday 8 am until time of service at the Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Those who wish in Wally's memory may donate to a charity of one's choice.
