BANGOR - Vivian Lucille (Libby) of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Smithfield, ME died Sunday, June 22, 2014 with both sons at her side at a Bangor health care facility.

She was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Norridgewock, ME, to Arnold and Hazel Libby.

She graduated from Besse High School in Albion, ME in 1945. She married Lloyd A. Ireland on July 29, 1945.

In 1950, she and Lloyd moved to Pennsylvania where they started a family. After 10 years, the decision to return to Maine was prompted by the terminal illness of her father. They bought her parents' family business, the Sunbeam Market and Roller Rink in Smithfield, operating the rink for nearly 20 years. She served the community of Smithfield for several years as Town Clerk. Following their retirement, they wintered in Zephyrhills, returning to Smithfield each spring. Vivian actively supported her husband in his nearly 40 years as a Kora Temple Shriner, making many lifelong friends along the way. Her many talents and hobbies included stained glass work, calligraphy, and sewing. Cooking and entertaining for family and friends was an important and enjoyable part of her life.

She is survived by her two sons, L. Douglas and his wife, Susan, of Hillsborough, NH, and Gregory and his wife, Maureen, of Bangor; five grandchildren, Casey Forest of Orange, MA, Connor Ireland and Carly Ireland of Hillsborough, NH, Erika Griffin and Gregory Ireland II of Bangor; four great-grandchildren, Zane Reid of Mass., Kate, Marin, and Brendan Griffin of Bangor; a sister, Dana Ruark; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband; parents; and brothers, Donald and Laforest.

Please join us at a memorial service to be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Federated Church of Skowhegan, ME. Committal services will take place at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, ME.
