Violet's Story

THE VILLAGES, FL - Violet Lorraine Rideout, of The Villages, Florida, died at her home on September 10th, 2015, from complications of leukemia and heart failure. She was born in Mattawamkeag, Maine, on January 31, 1933, the daughter of Neal and Doris Rideout.

At the time this picture was taken, she was: 19 years old, a Sgt. in the United States Air Force, a secretary in the office of the Air Provost Marshall, in Tokyo, Japan, a starter on the Tokyo WAF basketball team, and engaged to be married to a fellow airman, Thomas Ryan of Syracuse, NY. They were married on February 19, 1953, and returned to the states in November of that year. They made their home in Syracuse. They were divorced in 1978. She later returned to Maine where she lived for 25 years, first in Medway, then later in Searsport. She moved back to Florida in 2012.

She is survived by four children, Patti Ryan, Tracy Ryan, Mike Ryan, and Tommy Ryan, all of the Syracuse area, two grandsons, Joey Brill and Billy Brill, a granddaughter, Lisa Lorraine Ryan, also of the Syracuse area, and a brother, Neal (Eddie) Rideout, of Homosassa, FL. She is also survived by her very special niece and dear friend Rhonda Hall, of Sutton, Mass.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Susie Ryan, in 1998, and two sisters, Rita Stratton of Lincoln, Maine, and Irene Perkins, of Meriden, Conn.

At her request, there will be no services or memorials. Her cremation will be performed by Cremation Services of Mid-Florida. If anyone wishes to make a donation in her memory, she would be pleased if they would make it to any agencies who study and do research in the autism spectrum, especially Adult Asperger Syndrome.
