Bangor - Victor J. Carrier, 88, of Bangor, Maine, formerly of Veazie and Old Town, died peacefully at his Bangor residence on Oct. 23, 2016, after a battle with lung cancer. Victor was born in St. Gideon, P.Q. Canada on Dec. 16, 1927, the son of Lucien and Valerie (Roy) Carrier. He was the 5th of 13 children. In 1958, "Vic" began work as a carpenter in Local 1996 where he was employed until a workplace injury forced an early retirement.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fly fishing at Nesowadnehunk Lake in Millinocket, ME. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, building doll houses for his granddaughters, biking, swimming, traveling throughout the United States and Canada with his wife, and making puzzles. Vic could also be found playing cribbage at the Bangor Mall. He was extremely proud of scoring a perfect cribbage hand. He is a member of Holy Family Parish in Old Town, ME.
Victor was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Marion (Baker) (Adams) Carrier. He is survived by his son Joseph V. Carrier and wife Lupe of Rotan, TX; a stepdaughter Jeanne (Adams) Ott and husband Allan of Bar Harbor, ME; a stepson Lawrence S. Adams and wife Nancy of Kennebunk, ME; seven grandchildren; Joshua Carrier and his wife Angie of Garland, TX; Jada Carrier and her partner Michael Reinhardt of Killeen, TX; Samantha Adams and her husband Mark Bullock of Portland, ME; Maxwell Adams and his partner Caley Ostrander of Brooklyn, NY; Kelsey Snyder and her husband Andrew of Sanford, ME; Brooke Adams of Kennebunk, ME; and Autumn Carter and her husband Josiah of Ellsworth; five great-grandchildren, Anson and Jace Carrier of Garland, TX; Patrick Reinhardt of Killeen, TX; Sadie Snyder of Sanford, ME and William Carter of Ellsworth, ME. He is also survived by his god-daughter, Lillian Kurtz of Ovila, TX.
Vic is survived by two brothers and seven sisters; Frank of White Rock, B.C.; Claude and wife Evelyn of Auburn, MA, Theresa Fortier of Sabattus, Francoise Giroux of Lac. Megantic, P.Q., Germaine Carrier of Orleans, Ont. Canada, Fernande Bisson of Chamby, P.Q. Canada, Marie Blanche Tetreauit and her husband Gilles of Cramby, P.Q. Canada, Isabelle Busque and her husband Andre of Beloeil, P.Q. Canada, Elisabeth Carrier and her husband Rene Cote of Chambly, P.Q.Canada; six sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law: Theresa Algard of Watertown, SD; Mary Blair of Veazie; Ruth Grindle of Old Town; Rose Bishop and her husband Richard of Westerly, RI; Leona Gagnier of Port Orange, FL; Joan Knuti of Rock Hill, SC; Richard Baker and his wife Myrtle, of Old Town; Charles Baker and his wife Susan of Uncasville, CT; Joseph Baker and his wife Mary (Mimi) of Lee; David Baker and his wife Gloria of Milford; John Jalonski of Waterford, CT, many, many nieces and nephews and special friends, Lou Bain of Orono and Lois and Bob Morin of Old Town.
Vic was also predeceased by his former wife, Patricia Carrier; his sisters Jeanne d'Arc Poulin and Sr. Helene Carrier; brother Maurice Carrier; 14 brothers-in-law: Raymond Fortier, Eloi Racicot, Gilles Bastien, Fernand Giroux, Joseph Poulin, Jean Maire Bisson, John Baker, Patrick Baker, Gerald Blair, Robert Varney, John Knuti, Lawrence Grindle, Ernie Kafka, James Algard and five sisters-in-law: Marie Paul Carrier, Ann Carrier, Helen Varney, Rita Jalonski, and Lillian Kafka.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town. A celebration of life gathering will follow in the Holy Family Parish Hall. Graveside services at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Old Town, will be private.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of Eastern Maine for their care and support with a special thanks to Dr. Van Kirk, David, Lou, Sheryl, Dolly, Ily, Tricia, Connie, and Cheryl; to Victor's friends and neighbors at Longrale Park; to his brother, Claude Carrier; and to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Susan Baker.
