LINCOLN - Vaughn Dale Johnson, 76, husband of Sharon Whalen Johnson, passed away after a long illness on March, 13, 2015. He was born in Dexter, Maine on April 6, 1938 to the late Leslie and Gladys (Clifford) Johnson. Vaughn married Sharon in Washington D.C. on August 9, 1957. After living in Connecticut and Massachusetts, they moved to San Bernardino, California where they lived most of their life, while summering in Lincoln, Maine. They had retired and moved back to their hometown of Lincoln, where they are currently residing. Vaughn was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy with the Class of 1956. He was a member of the National Guard during his high school years and served in the US Navy from 1956 - 1962. After serving for his country, he worked for Gray Manufacturing and AVCO in Connecticut. He then moved to Massachusetts working for Sylvania, which led him to San Bernardino, California where he worked for TRW, for most of his career, as an Aerospace Engineer for our National Defense System, which he took much pride in. He finished his career in 2007 as a consultant with Northrop Drummond. Even though Vaughn was a man of few words, and his family had stretched the far ends of the nation, he always knew what was going on with all of his children, and was always there to support his family in all circumstances. He had a generous heart and took pride in his family. He thoroughly enjoyed building his retirement home, and sharing that home for social gatherings and the annual Johnson's summer steak and lobster fest.
Vaughn is survived by his wife and his four children; Wade Johnson, his companion Laurie Botting of Lincoln, Maine, Melissa Carlson, her husband Kurt of Oak Hills, California, Angela Arthers, her husband Butch of Lincoln, Maine, and Andrea Johnson of Yucaipa, California. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a sister, Sheila Leighton and her companion Arvid Good of Lincoln, Maine, a brother David Johnson and his wife Elaine, from Billerica, Massachusetts, a special niece Leslie Neal and her husband Steve of Lincoln, Maine, and many other nieces and nephews.
Vaughn was pre-deceased by his parents and his step-father Robert Cole.
There will be no calling hours or funeral at this time at Vaughn's request. A celebration of Vaughn's life is planned for this summer at the family's annual "Steak and Lobster" Fest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of your choice. Those who wish may sign an online guest register and leave written condolences at www.clayfuneralhome.com.
