EAST MILLINOCKET - Thomas W. Fernald, 81, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his home in East Millinocket. He was born June 6, 1933, in East Millinocket, the son of Wendell and Margaret (Young) Fernald.
Tom grew up in East Millinocket and was a graduate of Schenck High School, class of 1952. He worked at the Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket for 43 years, retiring in 1994. In earlier years, Tom was involved in town activities, serving on the school board and was actively involved with the Recreation Department, coaching Little League and leading the Recreation Department for a period of time. He was Assistant Chief of the East Millinocket Fire Department for many years. Tom was a member of the Elks Lodge #1521 in Millinocket. He loved spending time near the ocean, as well as fresh water fishing in the lakes and streams within the Katahdin Region.
Tom is survived by four children, Thomas Fernald Jr. and his children, Taylor, and Trevor, and Kirk "Kip" Fernald and his son, Kurt, Tom Bishop and his children, Joyce, Derric and Tawni, and Brad Bishop and his children, Breanne and Koby; two siblings, Wendella TenEyck and Bruce Fernald and his wife, Judy; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. predeceased by two sisters, Caroline Griffin and Joyce Hersey.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-3 p.m. Monday, February 23, at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where a Service of Remembrance will be held at 3 P.M.
