Waterville and Oakland
- Stella Marie (Roy) Poirier, 96, passed away on June 6, 2017, at Lakewood Continuing Care in Waterville surrounded by family. She was born on May 4, 1921, in Frenchville, eldest daughter of Peter and Amanda (Ouellette) Roy.
Stella was educated in Waterville schools and employed at the Diamond Match Company in Oakland and the Wyandotte Woolen Mill in Waterville. On September 3, 1945, she and Emile Poirier were wed at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage until Emile passed away in February, 2015. Stella and Emile moved to Brewer in 1969. In 1985, they retired to their home on Messalonskee Lake in Oakland where they enjoyed many years of lakeside living together with their family and friends. Lobster cookouts, barbecues, kibbie and cabbage roll dinners; birthday and anniversary parties were always on the agenda. Throughout her life, Stella worked hard at taking care of her family and their home. She enjoyed flower gardening, was a great cook and a proficient seamstress, making most of her daughters' clothing in their youth. In August of 2010, they ultimately moved to Park Residence at Woodlands Senior Living in Waterville where they enjoyed community living.
Stella is survived by her daughters: Donna Hanson of Vassalboro and her fiancé, Chuck Jankoski; Rachel Lynch and her husband, Jim Lynch; four grandchildren: Christopher Hanson and wife, Gina currently residing in Winslow; Jeffrey Hanson and his partner, Su Leigh of Oakland; Brianna Lynch of Brewer and Jesse Lynch of Minneapolis, MN; one very special great-granddaughter, Kayla Shea Hanson and her dear mother, Peggy Hunt Hanson. She is also survived by her brother Edmond and his wife Priscilla of Winslow and her sister Gloria Bernier of Englewood, FL. Stella was predeceased by two brothers Harold Roy and Ronaldo Roy as well as her sister Theresa Roy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 110 Silver Street, Waterville, Maine, with interment immediately following at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove Street, Waterville. All are invited to a celebration of Stella's life which will be held at her and Emile's lakeside home on Messalonskee Lake, 249 Blake Lane, Oakland.
