Spencer's Story

STEUBEN - Spencer H. Leighton, 90, passed away July 12, 2015 at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. He was born on September 3, 1924 in Milbridge, son of the late David H. and Marjorie S. (Hinckley) Leighton.

Spencer joined the U.S. Navy in 1942. Upon serving his country, he returned to Pigeon Hill, where he lobster fished, dug clams, carpentry, care taker and much more. Hard work was his idea of "the good life."

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marie (Perry); 3 children- Shelia Chipman and husband, Billy, Linda Lubrano and husband, Anthony, David Leighton and companion, Julie, all of Steuben; 5 step-children- Larry Curtis and wife, Sonja of Milbridge, Ralph Curtis, Linden Curtis and wife Debbie, Lisa Jordan, all of Florida and Lynn Kunkle of PA; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great granddaughters; 1 sister-Connie Dionne of Gardiner, 1 nephew-Norman Dionne and wife, Gail of VT. Also, Spencer leaves behind his numerous friends and "Loving Care" girls that made his life more comfortable and enjoyable.

He was predeceased by both of his parents.

Graveside services will be at 1pm on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the All Souls by the Sea Cemetery, Petit Manan Point, Steuben. Arrangements entrusted to Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Milbridge, ME.
