Signey's Story

Text size

Bar Harbor - Signey Frye, known as Sig or Siggie by her friends, died peacefully at home on November 28, 2016. She was born August 14,1927 in Meriden, Conn. to Henry and Joyce Cerasale.
Sig graduated from high school in Meriden, Conn. She met "the love of her life" Bob Frye while working at The Veterans' Hospital in Hartford, Conn. Sig and Bob married and had a daughter Sharon. They moved back to Maine where Bob had grown up. There they were blessed with a daughter Barbara (Bobbie) and a son Robert (Robbie). Sig stayed home with their children selling Avon for a few years, enjoying those she sold to. When Robbie was in school all day she went to work for The Job Corps in Bar Harbor, followed by working at Acadia National Park.
Sig enjoyed the little girls, being a Brownie Girl Scout leader. She belonged to the Eastern Star, the YMCA bowling league-both women's and couples' leagues. The teenage girls enjoyed her being on the Advisory board of Rainbow Girls. Sig and Bob loved belonging to the snowmobile club at Donnells Pond, also square dancing locally and away with other groups. Each year there were fun times going with friends to the Wayback Balls in Bar Harbor and Hulls Cove. Sig served as secretary of the MDI Hospital Auxiliary for many terms, also secretary of the State of Maine Hospital Auxiliary. She loved volunteering for 35 years at Sonogee and Birch Bay, singing, serving communion and taking down 80 calendars then putting up new ones for the residents at Sonogee, reading to a blind lady.
Sig and Bob built a lovely camp on Donnells Pond where they enjoyed family and many friends, always serving up wonderfully homemade meals. Bob joked he married her for her cooking.
Signey is survived by her daughter Sharon LeConte and husband Chris, daughter Barbara Muise, and son Robert E. Frye; grandchildren: Kimberly Schroeder, Jennifer Hallock, Matthew LeConte, Derek LeConte, Richard Conant, and Justin T. Frye; great grandchildren Caitlin Schroeder, Kylie Wyskochil, Chelsea Schroeder, and Logan Hallock; her sister Jeanne Watson, step sister Betty, sister-in-law Sherrill Thone: many dear nieces and nephews, and cousins. Sig was predeased by her loving husband Bob (Robert S. Frye) of 46 years, also her infant brother Sonny, brother Henry (Jack) Thone, and grandson Justin R. Frye.
A memorial service will be held at the cemetery in Hulls Cove in the spring, details to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Signey's name may be made to The MDI Hospital Auxiliary in Bar Harbor, Maine.
