Shirley's Story

MILFORD - Shirley Francis Burton, 80, died March 10, 2016.  He was born June 5, 1935, in Charleston, a son of Francis and Edith (Turner) Burton.

Shirley attended Charleston Classical Institute and was class Valedictorian in 1952.  He was employed in the shoe industry for many years, retiring as a foreman in the 1990s.  He enjoyed playing golf, ice fishing and hunting.  He also enjoyed trips to various tracks for grey hound and harness horse racing.  He volunteered for 15 years as a driver for Project Ride.   He was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan. 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene (St. Louis) Burton; three children, Gary Burton of FL,Bonnie Caouette and her husband, Gary, of MA and Michael Burton and his wife, Lisa, of Old Town; four grandchildren, Brandon and Todd Burton, Maliyan Francis and Christopher Shea; four great-grandchildren, Skylar Burton, Chloe Burton, Kobe Francis and Tristan Shea; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his son, Richard Burton; and a sister, Phyllis Whittier.
