Shawn's Story

BANGOR AND MASARDIS - Shawn D. Baxter, 47, died Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor. He was born December 16, 1967 in Presque Isle, the son of Lois (Curtis) Darkis and David Baxter. He graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1986, and was a platoon leader for the ROTC and a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Shawn was a history buff, very well-voiced in politics, and was a hockey enthusiast. He had an affinity for technology, and was a computer networking specialist. His talents in this area allowed him the opportunity to attend conferences and shows both nationally and internationally. Recently, he enjoyed assisting his father with his internet business. Though his life-long struggle with Type I Juvenile Diabetes caused many setbacks in his life, Shawn always found a way to persevere and push toward his goals.

He is survived by his two sons, Kyle Baxter of Milford, NH and Nicholas Bailey of Bangor, his mother and step-father Lois and Donald Darkis of Masardis, his father David Baxter of Bangor, his sister Jessie Darkis of Orono, his maternal grandmother Cleo (Picard) Bernier of Ashland, his very special companion Mary-Anne Saxl of Surry, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shawn is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Llewellyn Curtis, his paternal grandparents Ralph and Alice Baxter, his step-grandparents, Henry and Martha Darkis, and a special uncle, Nick Curtis.

A Remembrance Service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Sunday 11:00 until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ashland Municipal Cemetery.
