- Scott A. Mills, 93, died August 2, 2017 in Belfast, Maine. He was born in Des Moines, February 8, 1924 to Bert and Lora Mills.
Mr. Mills served in the Navy as a Communications Officer during World War II, participating in the invasion of Okinawa and the occupation of Japan. After the war, he finished his BA degree at Grinnell and then completed an MA at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He worked in US Army Intelligence for ten years and later worked as a writer for over 25 years at NASA. He is the author of the World War II histories Stranded in the Philippines; The Butchers, The Baker; and Mitsui Madhouse.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. October 7, 2017 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Belfast, Maine. Full obituary at www.ripostafh.com.
