- Sally Lorene (Rice) Perry passed away in the hospice unit of Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Glendale Arizona on Monday November 6th, 2017 following a quick and dirty battle with cancer.
Sally was born in Eastport Maine to Arthur and Janet (Leighton) Rice and spent her childhood in Pembroke. Her family moved to southern Maine during her high school years and she graduated from South Berwick High School in 1965. Following high school, she attended Lakes Region School of Nursing in Laconia New Hampshire.
In 1968 she married her high school sweetheart, Clyde Perry. They lived in Big Spring Texas before moving back to Bangor Maine. She worked in the Tumor Clinic at Eastern Maine Medical Center for 17 years.
She and Clyde relocated to Phoenix Arizona in 1990.
She was active in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls Assembly 38 in Orono Maine. She enjoyed camping, reading, perusing the Bangor Daily News and the Quoddy Tides on line, and Judge Judy. She could name that tune in a heartbeat and she could often be cajoled into singing it as well. She was who her grandchildren knew to call first for the definition of a word or to ask an historical homework question, "Mimi will know!". She was feisty and sassy. She had a quick wit and she enjoyed the same in others. She was down to earth, simple and direct. She expected liberal use of the "magic word" and a level of etiquette appropriate to the circumstance but she was never pretentious. She was small in size but mighty where it mattered. She was the boss, the heavy, where the buck stopped in our house and her husband was known to lovingly say, "I just do what I'm told.".
She is preceded in death by her father, Arthur K. Rice and her niece, Tina M. Browne.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Clyde M. Perry, son Christopher Perry, daughter Suzanne (Perry) Blaine, all of whom reside in the metropolitan Phoenix area, her mother Janet (Leighton Rice) Brown of Bangor, siblings Jane (Rice) Lever of Milwaukee WI, David Rice of Old Orchard Beach, Jerry Rice of Bangor, Alan Rice of Rollinsford, NH and Dwayne Rice of Berwick as well as her grandchildren Caitlyn and Sarah Aymami and Braeden Blaine, all of Glendale, AZ.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 18th, 2017 at the Sylvia Ross Home, 758 Broadway Bangor, in the Casablanca Room.
