- Ruth M. (Tate) Townsend, 79, of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly from an illness, on September 6, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born on June 11, 1938, the daughter of Oscar and Mabel (Andrews) Tate.
Ruth grew up and attended school in Corinth. She married Darrell Townsend and settled in Hudson, and they were blessed with eight children. In August, they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Ruth was a homemaker and often said, that raising her children and caring for them was the most important job of her life. Once the children were of school age, Ruth went to work as a cook in the local school district. Ruth was happiest when surrounded by family, and she never missed an opportunity for a good conversation. Whether by phone, at family parties, or at the kitchen table, Ruth liked nothing better than to sit and talk with family and friends. Ruth will be greatly missed for her quick wit, quiet strength, and for making us all feel special and equally loved.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is predeceased by her brother, Oscar (Billy) Tate, Jr., and her great-grandchild, Lucas Day. Surviving in addition to her husband, Darrell Townsend, are her sons, Fred and his wife Judy Townsend of Hudson, Bruce and his wife Dianne Townsend of Corinth, Dan and his wife Lynne Townsend of Charleston, Gillie and his wife Lori Townsend of Corinth, Butts (Arnold) and Theresa of Hudson; and her daughters, Debbie and her husband Terry Day of Corinth, Carrie Kennedy and Guy of Ellsworth; Julie and her husband David Foster of Kenduskeag. Ruth is survived by 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She leaves for Darrell's care, their beloved dog, Lily.
A private family gathering will take place to celebrate Ruth's life.
