BROOKLIN - Russell Thurlow Smith, 87, died peacefully April 07, 2016 at EMMC in Bangor. He was born in Brooklin, May 15, 1928 the son of Henry and Bessie W. (Allen) Smith.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was employed for over 50 years as the caretaker on the estate of Dr. & Mrs. Guy Hayes in Brooklin. Russ enjoyed hunting, especially bird hunting. He was a member of the Brooklin Baptist Church and served on many boards and committees over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Madeline; a son, Alan and his wife Beverly and grandson, Ben; daughter Annie, all of Brooklin; a special brother-in-law, Merrill Means and wife Brenda and sister-in-law Lois Means; brother-in-law, Cal Bryant; and special friend, Lynne Clark. He was predeceased by five brothers; one sister; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at EMMC for their loving care and support as well as the Brooklin Fire Department and Peninsula Ambulance for their special care.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, May 15, 2016 at Mt. Ephraim Cemetery, Brooklin with a reception to follow at Bowden Hall, Brooklin.
