Millinocket - Roy Douglas Nelson, 91, died Sunday, January 15, 2017, in Millinocket. He was born May 29, 1925, in Millinocket, to Roy Douglas Nelson Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Gilooly. Douglas attended high school at North Yarmouth Academy and Greenville High School, Maine. He worked as a machine operator for the Great Northern Paper Company, was a tool maker at Pratt and Whitney, a truck driver for Evans Brothers Inc, and a service manager for Amerigas.
Roy married Theresa Shortsleeve in 1956 and raised their daughters in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
Roy is survived by daughters: Bonnie (Robert) Bailey of Niskayuna, NY; Pam (Paul) Guiliano of Morristown, Florida; Jeri Lynn (Brendan) Howley of Glastonbury, CT; and Diane Gladu of Massachusetts. He is also survived by grandchildren Max, Sydney, Paul, Courtney, Jessica, and great grandchildren; Bowen, Lorelai, Aiden, Luca, and Remy. His grandchildren live in Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
Roy will always be remembered for his positive outlook on life, his ability to live each day to the fullest and his loyalty to family, friends and his devotion to his dog Teddy. Roy enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends exchanging interesting stories including his and other's travels throughout the country, US history particularly the Civil War, WWI, and WWII, and anything to do with his treasured roots in Millinocket and Chesuncook, Maine. Roy's family is also thankful for his friends in Millinocket and East Millinocket and especially to his caretaker Evelyn Burrell whose kindness and devotion kept him living independently in his home until his last day.
Memorial services will be held for Roy at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, on Friday, January 20th , 2017,at 11:00 a.m. Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.lamsonfh.com.
