Fort Kent and Eagle Lake - Ross E. Gatcomb III, 72, died peacefully with family by his side on October 30, 2016. Ross was born in Machias, August 27, 1944, the son of Ross E. and Belle (Bouchard) Gatcomb.
Ross was a Maine State Trooper from February 15, 1969, to April 30, 1991. He was very proud of receiving the Knights of the Road Plaque in 1973. After his retirement, Ross obtained a job with Dyn Corps, working in specialized security and training in Haiti, Jordan, Afghanistan, Kosovo and during Hurricane Katrina, and was a member of the Eagle Lake Knights of Columbus in the 3rd Degree, Past Masonic Member and the American Legion (Son's of Legionnaires) of Eagle Lake. He will be remembered for his love for family and friends, loved conversations and fishing.
Ross is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Ella (Cyr) Gatcomb of Eagle Lake; daughter, Kelly Gatcomb of Bangor; son, Ross IV and his wife, Lisa Gatcomb, of Georgetown, ME; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased his stepfather, Lawrence Willigar; and one sister, Marcia Willigar.
Friends may call Thursday, November 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, November 4, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Eagle Lake. Committal services will follow in the parish cemetery. Those who wish in Ross's memory may donate to the Alzheimer's Association, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to the Cross Winds Residence Care, 40 Village Road, Fort Kent, ME 04743. The family would like to express their sincere thank you for the heartfelt care and compassion given to Ross during his time in the I.C.U. at N.M.M.C. and especially at Cross Winds Residential Care.
