- Rodney Evans Fitch, 87, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Seaport Village in Ellsworth surrounded by his loving family. Rodney was born in Princeton on October 29, 1930.
After graduating from Princeton High School, Class of 1948, Rodney was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in the infantry division during the Korean War. Following the war, he returned home and married his love, Mary Collins, on September 28, 1953. Rodney started working for St. Croix Paper Co. in the woods and retired from Georgia Pacific as a wood purchaser after 40 years of service. Once retired, Rodney and Mary enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Brooksville, FL, and in Hawaii.
Rodney was a member of Lewy's Island Lodge #138 A.F. & A.M., the Quarter Century Club, and the Princeton Congregational Church. He was an avid hunter and will be remembered for his intellect, fairness, and kindness.
Rodney was predeceased by his mother, Etta Belle Fitch; and his two sisters, Edith Libby and Edwina "Jitts" Neimyer. Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Fitch; five children, Ricky Fitch and wife, Heidi, of Calais, Kathy LaPlant and husband, Ronald, of Princeton, Sandra Campbell and husband, Stephen, of Baileyville, Barbara Young and husband, Scott, of Bangor, and Rodney Fitch of Princeton; his grandchildren, Ricky Fitch of Calais, Ryan and Sara Fitch of Bradley, Robbie Fitch and companion, Toni Cole, of Eddington, Nathan LaPlant of Princeton, Matthew LaPlant and wife, Megan, of Baileyville, Julie Richard and husband, Marty, of Alexander, Stephen Campbell and companion, Mandy Belanger, of Baileyville, Bryan Young of Bangor, Chris Young and wife, Natalie, of Bangor, and Paige and William Fitch of Princeton; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Rodney's Life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers and donations, please visit someone in a nursing home to bring them comfort and support any cause that helps in the research of dementia.
