- Robert A. Deane, age 65, passed away July 10, 2017, in Bend, Oregon, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born in Waterville, ME, to Austin M. and Diane Edes Deane, of Guilford.
Bob graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1974 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Following graduation he worked on the Alaskan Pipeline until its completion. It was during this time that he met his wife, Norma, while traveling to Hawaii. He then finished graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He was proud to serve 32 years with the U.S. Forest Service until his retirement in 2010.
During his life, Bob enjoyed many activities, including fly-fishing, golfing, genealogy, travel and watching the Boston Red Sox. After his retirement, Bob spent many hours building houses as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and was highly involved with the local Genealogy Society, becoming their "Go to man" for DNA mapping.
In addition to his parents, Bob is survived by his wife of 39 years, Norma, of Bend, OR; his daughter, Caitlin and her husband, Brett Bobysud, of Cambridge, MA. He is also survived by three brothers, Brad and his wife, Terry, of Guilford, Peter and his wife, Martha, of Winslow and Rod and his wife, Michelle, of Freeport; one sister, Nancy Loranger and her husband, Fran, of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life services will be held in Oregon and Maine at a later date. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to your local Habitat for Humanity.
