- Richard E. Young, 80, died Jan 18, 2017, at the Maine Veterans Hospital, Togus, Me. He was born in Gouldsboro, Me., May 3, 1936, the son of Douglas and Bernice (Stevens) Young. Richard graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1955 and joined the U.S. Army serving in Frankfort Germany and the U.S. until 1959.
He was active in many organizations Anah Temple 2nd section in Bangor, and the Blue Lodge Masons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and coaching little league baseball in Machias. He owned and operated his own construction business in Machias for 11 years. He worked for the Army Corp of engineers in Ct. as a construction inspector. He served as a Bail Commissioner and Notary Public in Machias. Richard worked for HUD/FHA in Manchester, NH, Burlington, VT, and Bangor, Maine, as the Acting Maine State Coordinator for HUD and Supervisory Appraiser. After retiring from HUD he and his loving wife Corrine of 55 years spent time traveling and enjoying the down east coast where Richard fished for lobster in the summer. He is survived by his wife Corrine Young, son Michael Young and his wife Melinda and their children Kathleen her husband Walter and Nicholas. Son Stephen Young and his wife Wendy and children Nathan, and Luke. Stepchildren Kevin, Courtney, and Hope.
Services will be held in the spring in Cherryfield. Arrangements by the Greenlawn Funeral Directors, Bangor.
