Port St. Lucie, FL, and Dexter
- Richard Dean McKusick, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep November 15, 2016, at his winter home in Florida. He was born May 30, 1925, on the family farm in Dexter, a son of Ralph and Effie (Nichols) McKusick.
After graduating from N. H. Fay High School in Dexter, Dean joined the U. S. Navy. He returned home after WWII to attend the University of Maine, graduating in 1950 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He worked for Cornell University and then returned to Maine to run McKusick Construction with his cousin Harl McKusick. Dean went on to operate his family farm, owned and operated Dexter Dairy, and later retired from the FHS (Farmers Home Administration). He was a member of Penobscot Lodge # 39, Masons.
In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time at his camp on the lake, where you could find him always busy with a project. Dean was a kind, hardworking man who loved his family. He will forever be remembered for his contagious smile and loving hugs.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Belle (Vose) McKusick; children, Mark and (Lisa) McKusick, Margo and (Bobby) Titus, Matt and (Lynn) McKusick; stepchildren, Nancy Chandler (Henry Clews), Cheryl Chandler (George Sanders), Gail (Bill) Eaton, and Wayne Chandler. Dean loved spending time with his family including his 10 grandchildren; Angela (Kenneth) Dorman, Elizabeth (Adam) Moskovitz, David McKusick, Tiffany (Greg) Willis, Aaron (Melody) Titus, Megan (Adam) Harvey, Morgan (Nate) Therriault, Michia (Nathan) Chambers, Miranda (Matt) Kinney, Mackenzie (Ben) Brooks and 17 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Rodney, Gordon, and Jennie Rebecca Sevey and an infant son Richard, Jr.
