Blue Hill - Richard "Dick" Holloway Hill passed away at his home in Blue Hill, Maine on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 surrounded by his family and his friend Dr. Richard Hines.
Dick was born on November 22, 1935 in Scranton PA to Walter L. Hill, Jr. Esq. & Dorothy (Holloway) Hill. He attended Tabor Academy in Marion, MA, graduating in 1953. He then served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Raymond in Seward, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula for the next 3 years as a Morse Code Interceptor Operator and received the rank of Sargent. He then attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. He moved to Maine in 1960 and became the first pressman for The Weekly Packet, where he worked for 18 years. He was also an ambulance driver/attendant for the Peninsula Ambulance Corp., starting in 1968, a job which went along with his time at "The Packet". Dick then worked for another 18 years at Maine Frame in Sedgwick. In 1970, Dick opened his gun shop "Richard H. Hill, Shooting Supplies" which he operated as a part-time business in the evenings and then became his hobby after retirement.
Dick was an avid member of The Blue Hill Rifle & Pistol Club and a member of The First Baptist Church of Blue Hill.
Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra (Byard) Hill, daughters Allison & husband Ken Charles of Blue Hill, Lisa & husband Denis "Dee" Dauphinee of Bradley, Maine and Elizabeth "Betsy" & husband Robert Ladd of Belton, Texas, grandchildren, Hazen & Samantha Dauphinee, Nathaniel & Amanda Ladd, Katherine & William Charles, sisters-in-law, Saralyn Byard & Nancy Hill, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, 1 great-grand-nephew and several first cousins.
In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Walter "Terry" and David Hill and his brother-in-law, Lawrence "Butch" Byard.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at The First Baptist Church of Blue Hill, 53 Pleasant Street.
