Millinocket - Richard P. Bernier, 64, passed away peacefully Jan. 31, 2018, at home after a long battle with cancer.  He was born March 2, 1953, in Millinocket, the son of Rene and Lucille (Oakes) Bernier.
Rick graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1972, then went to work for the Great Northern Paper Company, where he worked for 32 years.  He also earned his welding certificate from EMCC.
Rick proudly served his country in the Maine Army National Guard for 11 years, first as an engineer and then as a medic and recruiter.
Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling.  He especially loved going on cruises with family and friends.  He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. 
Rick was a member of Donald V. Henry Post #80 of the American Legion, Millinocket Elks Lodge #1521, and previously served as Cub Master of Pack 66 in Millinocket.
He was predeceased by his dad, Rene Bernier; and brothers, Robert and Roxie. In addition to his mother, Lucille, Richard is survived by his loving wife of almost 45 years, Mary (Ambrose) Bernier of Millinocket; son, Jeffrey Bernier of Millinocket; daughter, Mandy Reynolds and her husband, Joe; stepgrandchildren, Devan Gray and Benjamin Reynolds, all of East Waterboro; brothers, Rene Bernier and his wife, Claudette, Rodney Bernier and his wife, Regina, and Carlton Bernier and his wife, Charlotte; sisters, Brenda Additon and her husband, Robert, Sandra Bernier and fiance, Clarence Wildes, and Sheila Duplisea and her husband, Eugene; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Rick's family would like to thank his very special "family" from Massachusetts General Hospital Transplant Team and the nurses of Blake 6.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 9-11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 p.m noon Saturday, February 3, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider.  Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery.  Gifts in memory of Rick may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O.
