Houston, Texas - Ralph P. Kelly, 89, died July 19, 2017, in Houston, Texas. He was born September 1, 1927, in Carmel, Maine, to Hugh M. and Martha (Sargent) Kelly.
Ralph graduated from Brunswick High School in 1945 and joined the Merchant Marines. He was very proud to be a Coast Guard veteran. He was an avid outdoorsman and Registered Maine Guide. Ralph enjoyed flying his Piper Cub into small ponds to fish from the floats. He spent much of his career teaching the machine trade in Connecticut, retiring as Director of Windham Regional Technical School Machine Shop in 1985 and returning to Maine. He owned and operated Kelly's Kozy Kamps in the Rangeley Lakes, Maine region and a boys camp, Camp Baldy, on Chemo Pond, Maine. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene D. Kelly; son, Hugh M. Kelly and wife, Shawna; daughter, Lee Ann Kelly Elvig and husband, Mark; son, Ralph P. Kelly Jr.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Hansen and Helen Worcester; and a brother, Harry Kelly.
A memorial service will be held August 25 at 4 p.m. at the Carmel Union Congregational Church, Carmel, with a reception downstairs in the church following the service. Gifts in Ralph's name may be made to Maine Guides Education Fund, P.O. Box 603, Patten, ME 04765.
