- Preston "Jere" Richardson, 90, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Country Meadows Care Facility in Lancaster, PA. Born in Dexter, Maine on August 16, 1927 to the late Preston H. and Celena Richardson. His loving wife of 69 years, Charlotte, preceded him in death by three weeks. She appeared to him in a dream the night she passed and told him that she would be back for him soon and he was eager to join her. He is survived by son, Larry (Sue) Richardson of Lititz, PA, daughter, Vicki (William 'Buz') Reed of Cedarburg, WI, granddaughters, Holly Hutto and Callie Reed (Aaron Seaman), grandson, Tim (Cecilia) Reed, great-grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jon) Horst, Tyler (Emily) Hutto, sister, Polly Poulin and sister in law, Jean Hollis, cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy on the USS Douglas H. Fox. Jere worked for many years at Dexter Hardware and Soule Glass in Maine and finished his career at Sevens Paint and Wallpaper in Grand Rapids, MI. He was a member of the Dexter Fire Department following in the steps of his dad, and grandfather. His dry wit and quick smile endeared himself to all wherever he worked or volunteered. He loved whistling to the music of the 40s, fishing, road trips, and helping family and friends with projects around their homes. Jere and Charlotte's devotion and love for each other inspired everyone who met them and will serve as their enduring legacy. The patience and tender care that Jere showed for Charlotte as she advanced through the journey of Alzheimer's inspired all at Country Meadows where they lived since 2015. A special thank you goes to the staff and caregivers at Country Meadows and Grane Hospice who provided loving attention to Jere and Charlotte as well as their family.
There will be a celebration of Jere and Charlotte's lives in Dexter, Maine in the summer of 2018, a date to be announced later. We hope you will join us then.
