Philip's Story

ORLAND - Philip Whitney, 83, died August 24, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor, Maine. Phil was born Oct. 11, 1931 in Gray, Me, the son of Earl L and Margaret (McIntosh) Whitney.

Phil graduated from Pennell Institute in Gray in 1950. Phil served in the Army Radio Corps in Korea from 1952-1954. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years as the East Orland Postmaster and Rural Route Carrier in Penobscot Me. Phil was a Past Master of Rising Sun Lodge No. 71 A.F. & A.M.. Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, farming, storytelling, and living in the log home he and his wife built 40 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alberta M. (Grindle) Whitney, 3 children; daughter Constance Whitney Brassbridge, son Scott Whitney both of Orland, son Richard Whitney and wife Julie of Clifton, Me. Three Grandchildren; Christina Wheeler, Benjamin Whitney and wife Jenn, and Danica Brassbridge. One great grandchild Alice Whitney.

Graveside, Masonic, and Military services will be at the Back Ridge Cemetery, Saturday August 29, at 10 am in East Orland. Gifts in memory of Phil may be sent to the Back Ridge Cemetery Association c/o Molly Lord 152 Lakeview Rd Penobscot, Maine 04472.
