Paul Daniel McQuarrie

Jackson Heights - Paul Daniel McQuarrie, retired Vice President of the New York Institute of Finance, died on September 21, 2018 at Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, N.Y. Carlo M. Potes, his partner, said the cause of death was pulmonary embolism. Born in Millinocket, Me. on February 28, 1932. Mr. McQuarrie was graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1949, with honors in public speaking. He earned a BA cum laude in philosophy from St. Anselm College in 1953 and a MA in human relations and community studies from New York University in 1969. During his tenure in the USAF Air Training Command from 1953 to 1957 he served as a tactical instructor at Sampson AFB, N.Y., member of a planning task force at Chanute AFB. 11L, and director of students at the Boeing Airplane Company's AF school in Seattle, Wash.
Mr. McQuarrie devoted forty years in the financial services industry developing human resources including such contributions as engineering work standards and work simplification procedures for The Guardian Life Insurance Co., N.Y.; implementing clerical skills courses and management training for Blue Cross - Blue Shield, N.Y.; and designing securities, options and commodities courses for Wall Street firms at the New York Institute of Finance. Mr. McQuarrie was a recognized authority in assisting executives to improve their instructional skills. He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, The American Society of Training and Development, and the N.Y. Management Development Forum. After retirement in 1998 Mr. McQuarrie continued involvement in financial affairs and his many personal interests. He was a communicant at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Jackson Heights, N.Y. He traveled widely in Latin America and Europe. He was a fifty-six-year member of the New York Color Slide Club and a four-star exhibitor in the Photographic Society of America. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel A. McQuarrie and Anna Beaulieu McQuarrie of Millinocket, Me. And his aunt, Rita M. Tardy, of Bangor, Me. He is survived by his partner of fifty-five years, Carlo M. Potes of Jackson Heights, and many beloved cousins of the McQuarrie and Beaulieu families. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Jackson Heights, N.Y. on October 6, 2018. Interment will be private at the cemetery in Millinocket, Me.
