Text size

Bangor - Slipped away peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning July 16, 2017, after a two week stay at EMMC, due to pulmonary embolism and multiple strokes .
Born Sept 9th, 1934 in Bangor Maine, son of Paul J. Martin, Sr. of New Brunswick (d. 1970) and Imelda Martin nee Fournier (d. 2006) of Old Town. Paul attended John Bapst High School, was an ardent pianist, and served the country in the U.S. Army, having been stationed at Fort Gordan, Georgia and Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he serviced helicopters. He made his permanent home in Amherst, with high school sweet heart and life-long love Elizabeth Ann (Betty Bragg) Martin of Amherst, whom he married in 1958. He worked variously in the Amherst lumber camps run by his father, in management positions at Williston Supply Company of Bangor, F. W. Webb of Bangor, and as the foreman of Union River Electric Cooperative in Aurora before his retirement in 1995. In the 70's he served the community as a Trustee of the newly built Airline Community School and as a local volunteer firefighter. After his retirement, Paul continued doing what he loved most, spending time in the forest with Betty and cutting wood.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife and partner of sixty-five years, Elizabeth Martin, sons Donald J. Martin of Clifton, Ronald P. Martin of Amherst and Anthony L. Martin of Great Pond and their families, by sisters Lorraine Griffin of Old Town, Joan Martin of Bangor and Janet Cammack of Brewer and their families, by grandchildren Amanda McDonald, Rebecca Martin and Donald Martin, Jr., Katrina Nelson and Gretchen Nelson and their families and great grand children Alyssa, Roland and Shawn MacDonald, as well as a great many cousins, nieces and nephews and in-laws.
No services are planned. A Memorial Gathering will take place after the weather cools on ancestral family lands at Hadley Cemetery located on the MacDonald Road in Amherst, with a pot luck reception to follow. Once set, the date and time will be published on Facebook. Family and Friends are invited to join us and may also contact us for additional information at galaxyguru@yahoo.com or 207-735-5567.
