O'Neil's Story

WATERVILLE - O'Neil A. Michaud fondly known by many as Bimpy, 83, husband of Ruth (Hilchey) Michaud, died Aug. 20, 2015 in Augusta after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born Apr. 27, 1932 in Old Town, the son of Edmond J. and Marguerite T. (Theriault) Michaud.

O'Neil was a US Army veteran of Korea having served in Germany during that time and he worked for 35 years at AMHI in Augusta . After his discharge from the US Army, he met and married the love of his life, Ruth (Hilchey) Michaud on April 21, 1954 celebrating 61 years of marriage in April of this year. O'Neil was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who never ceased to give of himself. He taught his children and grandchildren many things including his love of music and singing and his woodworking craft among many other of life's lessons. He spent most of his weekends playing in his band or hosting karaoke at the Sunset Grille.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Ruth Michaud of Waterville are three children, Rick Michaud and his girlfriend, Dori Nadeau of Waterville, Vickie Michaud and her husband, Lawrence Davis, Jr. of Fairfield Center, Thomas Burr and his wife, Beth of Tallahassee, FL; his "adopted" son, Joseph Shepherd of Waterville; seven grandchildren, Ryan Michaud and his wife, Sarah of Waterville, Hunter Brown of Fairfield Center, Emma Michaud and Colby Nadeau of Winslow, Jessica Burr of Florida, TC Burr and his wife, Jasmine of Virginia, Rebecca and Mary Burr of Florida; a great grandchild, Thomas Isaiah Burr of Virginia and two step grandchildren, Sara and Colby Davis both of Fairfield Center; one brother, Chester Michaud and his wife, Jeannie of Bradford; two sisters, Edna Cobb of Brewer and Irene Michaud of Auburn; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered by special family friends Ruthann Belanger of Auburn and Noella Voisine of Brewer. He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings, Norman and Aurelle Michaud, Pauline Madore and Cecile Whitcomb.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. A celebration of O'Neil's life will immediately follow at the Sunset Grille in Belgrade Lakes.
