Norma Joan 'Tiger' McCarthy

May 22, 1934 - January 18, 2019

Christmas Cove - Norma Joan McCarthy, "Tiger", a longtime resident of Christmas Cove, succumbed to her year-long battle with cancer on January 18, 2019 at eighty-four years old.
She loved life as much as it loved her, and her family and friends were always better for one of her stream of consciousness tales. Ever game for an adventure, she and Patrick McCarthy, her husband of 59 years, fly-fished, sailed, conjured terrific meals, and collected everything from antique glassware to vintage handbags and scarves. They were inseparable.
She is survived by her five children, Seán McCarthy, Megan Jackel, Cait Kelly, Hannah McCarthy, and Patrick McCarthy; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will celebrate Tiger's life in July. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Damariscotta River Association, P.O. Box 333, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.

Tiger was such a special friend, lots of fun, lots of class. I have many very fond memories and stories of wonderful times in Bangor, in Christmas Cove, at the Megantic Club, all around the State of Maine and boating on its waters.
Blessings on all of you. May you find Peace and Joy as you remember her.

Tiger was such an exuberant lady and so full of life and fun. She was a much loved member of Shakespeare Club while living in Bangor and still so vibrant and full of laughter when we all saw her last summer. My deepest sympathy to her family. She will be so missed.

Tiger was a wonderful person. Bright, funny, kind -- full of ideas, opinions, and good will. The Woodcock family was enriched by her friendship. Lots of love to all of the McCarthy family. Libby

I am very sorry to hear of Tigers passing.
I have always had fond memories of the times spent at your home in Bangor with Megan and Cait. Especially when Tiger served us wine and fondue during the holidays. She was a funny lady!!! God Bless

Hey Cait, Don't know if you remember me from long ago. I'm so sorry to see of your mom's passing. She was such a classy lady. I have very vivid memories of going to your house and your mom's flair for hostessing. I remember her making cherries jubilee on your birthday and having a formal table set with classical music playing for breakfast. I was used to a bowl of Cocoa Puffs in front of the tv! Praying that God comforts your family during this time.
