- Nellie May Lancaster, 64, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, in Community Hospice Care Center. Nellie was born on April 1, 1953, in Lincoln, a daughter of the late Clayton Sr. and Jennie Dickinson Lancaster.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Reggie and Ronald "Bo" Lancaster.
Nellie was a graduate of Island Falls High School and attended a small college in Portland on a basketball scholarship. Nellie was employed by Verizon. She worked and lived in Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Michigan, and Texas, before retiring and moving to Kentucky.
Nellie is survived by a son, Jason Paul Lancaster of Astoria, Oregon; two special children who came into her life and were like sons to her, Lee (Joan) Nussbaum of Damascus, Maryland, and Michael (Sara) Nussbaum of Brunswick; grandchildren, Zach and Samantha Nussbaum of Damascus, and Adam and Jack Nussbaum of Brunswick; life partner, Debbie Massie, of Ashland, KY; brothers, Terry (Bonnie) Stratton of Wildwood, Florida, John Lancaster of Skowhegan and Clayton (Joan) Lancaster Jr. of Swanville.
A memorial service to celebrate her life was held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Ashland, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or Dempsey Center for Cancer, Hope and Healing at dempseycenter.org.
