HAMPDEN - Milton C. Wheaton, 87, died unexpectedly on Nov. 22, 2015. He was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Patten, the son of Milton W. and Geneva (Gagnon) Wheaton.

Milton graduated from Camden High School in 1948. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Reykjavik, Iceland. He married Marion Jane Harvey and they settled in Rockland. They celebrated 65 years of marriage last week.

Following graduation Milt became an employee of Armour and Company in Rockland and later Bangor, retiring from the company after 33 years of service. After retiring from Armour he was a 10-year employee with Carl Smith Foods in Bangor.

Milton was past president (1961) of the Megunticook Fish and Game Association. He was a member of the Masonic Aurora Lodge #50 in Rockland. Upon relocating to Bangor in 1977, Milt became a member of the Anah Temple Shrine in the Past Masters unit. He also belonged to the Eddington Salmon Club, where he served on the Board of Directors.

Milt was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially salmon fishing on the Matapedia River in Quebec with his friend, Royce Day. However, his true passion was his annual deer hunting trips to the family hunting camp in Patten with all his family members.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Bernard (Bud). He is survived by his brother, Donis; wife, Jane; daughter, Valerie; and son, Chris. Milton has five grandchildren, Jenna Goss Wood, Justin Goss, Kristin Wheaton, Joanna Wheaton and Jared Capone; seven great-grandchildren, Isak Wheaton, Devin Wood, Elijah Harris, Ethan Wood, Madelyn Goss, Luca Capone and Dominic Capone; nieces, Catherine Wheaton Courand, Victoria Wheaton Moody and Julie Wheaton; and nephews, Mark Wheaton and Peter Wheaton.

At the request of the deceased, there will not be a service. A private gathering will be held at the family camp at a later date. Those who wish to remember Milton in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Eddington Salmon Club, Box 404, Brewer, ME 04412.
