Michael's Story

BANGOR - Michael Terry Swenson, 67, died October 6, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born March 14, 1948, in Bangor, a son of Walter C. and Merie A. (Bouchard) Swenson.

Michael was an outstanding athlete at Bangor High School, especially excelling in the track program. His athletic prowess continued through adult hood where he played many summers in the Bangor softball league. He was a graduate of Husson College, where while a student, he founded the Free Income Tax Preparation program. He was employed for 31 years at the Old Town Paper Mill, retiring from Georgia-Pacific in 2006. He was a die hard New England sports fan, following the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. Faith and family were important to Michael and he cherished time spent with family, especially following the grandchildren's activities. He lived his life with unwavering faith and conviction, and cared deeply for others, many times putting their needs before his.

He is survived by his best friend, soulmate, and wife of 42 years, Beverly (Peterson) Swenson; three sons, Butch Babin and his wife, Christina of Bangor, Craig Babin and his wife, Lea of Milford, and Stephen Babin and his wife, Sandy of Bangor; 8 grandchildren, Erika Kennedy, Brandon Babin and his wife, Hallie, Ryan Babin, Gabriel Babin, Sean Babin, Hilary Babin, Sarah Babin, and Olivia Babin; and great-granddaughter, Annabelle; brothers, Tony Swenson of Bangor and Pete Swenson and his wife, Barbara of Bangor; a wonderful twin sister, Beverley Swenson and her partner, Nancy Jackson of Ocala, FL; and life long friend, Ed Rice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Indian Island, where a reception will follow in the church hall.
