VERONA ISLAND - Michael Gray passed away after a brief illness on March 11, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was 62 years old.

He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1972 - 1976. From there he worked at the Bucksport Paper Mill for 38 years, where he made many friends and earned his nickname, "Gunney." He loved hunting, playing pool with the guys and was skillful with many trades.

He married the love of his life, Ellie Gray in 1972 and they shared 41 wonderful years together, and he joins her now for eternity. They are together again.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Ellie; his mother, Pauline Gray; and his grandparents, Roland and Kay Gray, of whom were very special to him.

He leaves behind his daughters, Kimberly Gray of Bucksport and Michelle Grindle and her husband, Jason Grindle, of Bucksport; father and stepmother, Harlan and Dawn Gray of Swanville; brothers, Brian Gray of Verona and Shawn Gray of Carmel; several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends; and his three precious grandchildren, Kaylee Nicole Grindle, Lindsey Taylor Grindle and Cooper Michael Stone, of whom brought him the greatest joy. Bampa loves you, and he and Nana will always be watching over you.

He was happiest when he was with his family, listening to Howie Carr and Country Music Gold, family trips and spoiling his grandchildren. He enjoyed his time with the ladies at the Garden Common Apartments in Bucksport, where he called the BINGO numbers every week. Michael was a man of many talents. He was self-taught in the art of vehicle restoration, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and was always available to lend a hand in those trades to his family and friends. He loved visiting with people, sharing stories and would always be seen with a mug of coffee in hand. He will be remembered for his generosity, compassion for others and the love that he had for his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. March 19, 2016, at the Franklin Street Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow at his daughter's home, 8 Cedar Street, Bucksport.
